Training That Fits Your Team

Every session is customized per team — using data that's related to your team's actual work. Not generic tutorials with made-up datasets. I use your real numbers, your real questions, your real problems.

Before we start, I do a quick assessment to understand your team's level. If the group is already familiar with basic formulas and tables, we skip straight to pivot tables. No wasted time on things you already know.

Each session is 3 hours with a 15-minute break. The northstar for every session: solve 2–3 real problems. Questions to answer are set up before every session, and I answer more questions live during the training.

Your team will also learn to use LLMs to find answers and solve different data problems on their own — so the learning continues after the training ends.

Topics & Sessions

Topics are covered in this sequence. Based on the assessment, we can skip ahead if your team is ready.

1. Dynamic Tables & Aggregation Formulas — 1–2 sessions

  • Convert normal tables to dynamic, auto-expanding tables
  • Multi-level sorting, filtering, and slicers
  • Range references (named ranges) and data validation with list sheets
  • SUMS, SUMIFS, Totals, COUNT, COUNTIFS, AVERAGEIFS
  • Formatting and view freeze
  • Calculated columns
  • Data quality and data cleaning concepts — IFERROR

Example: "What are the sales channels? How much per channel?" — your team answers questions like these with their own data using SUMIFS.

2. Formulas, Text Manipulation & Lookups — 1 session

  • VLOOKUP to XLOOKUP — and how to handle empty results
  • IF formulas and how logic works
  • Text formulas: MID, LEFT, LEN
  • Advanced text formulas: JOIN, concatenation with "&"

3. Pivot Tables & Pivot Charts — 2 sessions

  • Convert SUMIFS to pivot tables
  • Copy pivot tables and PT cache
  • PT rows and columns — flat tables vs. pivot tables
  • Multi-row PTs and subtotals
  • Changing aggregations and number formatting
  • PT refresh and automatic data expansion with dynamic tables
  • PT styles — compact vs. flat
  • PT filters and slicers
  • Updating source fields and calculated fields

4. Charts & Basic Dashboards / Reports — 2–3 sessions

Chart Types:
  • Column/Bar charts — Comparing categories (e.g., sales by region). Clustered vs. stacked vs. 100% stacked. When to use horizontal bars vs. vertical columns
  • Line charts — Trends over time (e.g., monthly revenue). Multiple series comparison. Markers vs. no markers
  • Pie/Donut charts — Part-to-whole relationships (used sparingly). When NOT to use pie charts. Donut charts for multiple series
Chart Design Best Practices:
  • Dynamic charts that update automatically
  • Remove chart junk: gridlines, unnecessary legends
  • Effective titles: descriptive, not generic ("Q4 Sales Increased 15%" vs. "Sales Chart")
  • Data labels: when to show, when to hide
  • Axis formatting: start at zero (or justify why not), appropriate intervals

What Every Session Looks Like

Pre-Session Setup

Questions to answer are set up before every session using your team's real data and real scenarios.

3 Hours + Break

Each session is 3 hours with a 15-minute break. Enough time to go deep, not so long that people zone out.

Solve 2–3 Real Problems

The northstar for every session. Your team walks away having solved actual problems, not just watched a demo.

Live Q&A Throughout

Beyond the pre-set questions, I answer more questions live during the session as they come up.
